Should we be giving pets organic food only?

The bottom line is we just don’t know! Nutritionally, organic and non-organic both offer similar benefits. It’s not necessarily a case of organic being ‘healthier’ but more about how certain chemicals in pesticides may react with the bodies in ways we are yet to figure out.  There are a small number of studies which suggest some benefits to eating organic vs non-organic produce in humans, however there is much more research needed to be able to make any solid claims.
However, that being said, we personally only offer mostly organic produce to animals for the following:

• The pesticide residue present in commercially bought foods have only been tested for human consumption.
• For instance, we know Parrots are more susceptible to the chemicals found in common household items such as candles and air fresheners.
• Sustainability factors.
• An animal’s wild source of food would have been organic, therefore we could argue that their biology has not evolved to deal with man-made chemicals and the long term effects of this are unknown.
• We personally enjoy learning about and growing our own food!
